Extremely ride comfort determined by shock absorber (Subaru Impreza WRX STi GDB-E, KYB Real Sport GRAVEL)

The customer who recently purchased Impreza GDB (Applied E) contacted me, because he was concerned about pushing up uncomfortable ride when passing through an unevenness road surface.

MY2004 GH-GDB (Applied E) EJ20 Turbo 6MT Mileage 103,000km

He read the previous article, and asked from the expectation that the ride comfort will be improved by replacing the shock absorber for Gravel competition.

Isn't your car on the wrong suspention?(Subaru Impreza WRX STi GDB Shock Absorber Replacement, Improved Ride Comfort)

First of all, in order to confirm the current ride comfort, I let he come to our shop before work.

When I look at the engine room, there is evidence of maintenance by a mechanic who is familiar with it, and the worried part at the time of the mileage of 100,000 kilometers seems to have been almost taken care of.

However, I was able to feel the unconfortable ride that the customer said when i drove immediately. When the coil spring begins to move, the convergence force of the shock absorber is insufficient, leaving an extra vibration.

This, such as during high-speed running and large unevenness road surface, will be worried about the larger the input to the tire.

The shock absorber for the Gravel competition of KYB prepared is not an inverted type that was originally installed, but a general upright type of four-stage adjustment type (bump rubber is another vehicle type type supplies).I hear some advantages of the inverted type, such as the height of lateral rigidity when the shock extends, but I think that the upright type is enough.

In addition, most of the roads are rough roads. You can say that there are few beautiful pavements.I think that it is the best choice for the unpaved road competition to ground the tire efficiently in various situations.

All four of the inverted shock absorbers that were removed had no loss of enclosed nitrogen gas, and there was still moderately repulsive force. The piston rod is longer than normal at the front, and long strokes work advantageously and you can expect to improve the ride comfort.

The upper mount which deteriorated and cracked is replaced with a new one.The force must not run too far on the upper mount before the absorber moves.

The ride height of the car was a rise up about 2 to 4 mm.Because there is no spring change, it might be the old and new difference of the upper mount.

When I leave the store and take the first step, I can see the ride feeling that has improved remarkably. In combination with the normal spring, the attenuation adjustment of the front "3" and the rear "2" seems to be good for urban driving.Since the difference can be clearly underview in one stage change, after handing it, I asked you to adjust it to your liking.

In addition, the crack of the rear shaft boots found in the inspection was treated.

And, I have a questioon about that it is a weight that was attached to the rear caliper inside.

Is it a weight to take the balance (or resonance) with Brembo's lightweight caliper attached? If a non-so-heavy balance weight is intentionally added, you may need to pay attention to the weight of the standard tire or standard wheel.

And, the Impreza which I received this time was equipped with an alloy wheel with a small offset of about 10mm.During turning, the rotation difference between the inner and outer and rear wheels increases from the standard, and there is a sense of discomfort at the start of steering. If a good genuine wheel is found, I recommend the early replacement.
